Rochester NY Militia In May of 1814 the total man power of Rochester was 33 men capable of bearing arms (50 muskets and 3,000 rounds were on hand). Yet that small group was commanded by two captains one major and a colonel! The defenses consisted of a breastwork called Ft. Bender by the lower falls not far from the Driving Park Avenue Bridge.
