When Smyth failed in his attempts to invade Canada in November, Porter publicly blamed Smyth. Charges and counter charges ensued. Ending with a duel where each man missed the other. Porter and his brother and deeply involved in contracting with and provisioning the army. Fortunately the concept of "conflict of interest" has not taken hold. Porter continued to campaign and raise recruits for the army throughout 1813. Porter led a small brigade into action at Chippewa and Lundy's Lane. Porter's men were also part of the siege of Ft. Erie.
