Raining Militia

Legend has it that during breakfast at the Gorsuch Farm house, several American Dragoons were brought in to be questioned by Gen. Ross. They were happy to inform him that the city of Baltimore was defended by 20,000 troops. When he learned that these were just militia, he was reported to have said, "I don't care if it rains militia."

Not only did American commanders have a poor opinion of militia troops, but the British also seem to share that opinion.
