Celebration New York

On the 23d of October the City Hall in New York was decorated in honor of the victories of Lake Erie and the Thames . . . up until this time American had little to celebrate in regards to the war. In the windows of the City Hall were several transparencies. One of them represented the battle on Lake Erie, and the words "DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP!" In front of Tammany Hall was a superb painting exhibiting a full-length portrait of Harrison, and the figures of several native warriors, the chief of whom was on his bended knees suing for peace, and offering at the same time a squaw, and her papoose on her back, as hostages for their fidelity. On it was also represented the naval engagement on Lake Erie.
