Boy Heroes of Sept. 12

Tradition has it that Daniel Wells and Henry Gough McComas were responsible for the shooting of British Gen. Robert Ross. Both were members of the 1st Rife Battalion under the command of Capt. Edward Aisquith, who led the sharpshooters. Both young men were killed on September 12, 1814 at a skirmish near the battle of North Point.

No witnesses saw the boys shoot the general, and it may be that since no one else stepped up to claim the responsibility, Aisquith assigned it to two men who were unable to report.
