Punitive Expedition at Fort Wayne, September 14, 1812

Harrison sent out several militia infantry regiments from Fort Wayne with orders to destroy any Native American village they found as punishment for the siege on Fort Wayne. The first expedition advanced to The Forks Of The Wabash, an important Miami village. The Forks was evacuated when they arrived. The village surprised many US troops as the town was well built, better in some ways than their own homes. The town was completely destroyed by Harrison's forces, as well as any crops that they Miami had not had time to remove.

The second expedition marched to the Elkhart River, where they destroyed the village of Chief Five Medals, as well as all crops.
