August 31, 1814
Battle of Caulks Field

On the night of August 30th The British landed 260 men under the command of Capt. Peter Parker. Capt. Parker's target was 200 militiamen under the command of Lt. Col. Phillip Reed camped at Caulks Field in Maryland of the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The British launched a night attack on the American camp on August 31st, but in the confusion, Capt. Parker was gunned down. As a result the British attack fell apart and they withdrew.

This left the Americans in command of the field, much to Lt. Col. Reed's surprise, as he was about to order a retreat because his men had run out of ammunition. The British took 43 casualties for their trouble and the Americans only three.
