July 18, 1814
Burning of St Davids

After the Battle of Chippawa, the campaign settled down into the reverse of 1813. The British trapped in Forts George and Niagara and the Americans trying to throw them out. Remembering that the British sapped their strength with raids and skirmishes, the Americans tried the same tactic.

On July 18th 1814, Maj. Gen. Peter B. Porter sent a detachment of militia from Queenston to raid the village of St. David's. Lt. Col. Stone's militia successfully drove off the 1st Lincoln Militia defending the town, captured the village, but then they proceeded to loot and burn most of the buildings. Forty homes and businesses were ruined by the fire.

Gen. Brown had Lt. Col. Isaac Stone officially censured and dismissed from the service as a result of his performance in this action.
