Quaker Guns The practice of making fake defenses goes back to the Greeks. The Greeks also invented the first fake device to be used for offensive operations. Just ask the Trojans about the horse. Once cannon became popular, they we frequently faked by cutting down trees of the right size, carving them into a cannon shape and painting them black. By the 17th century this practice was referred to as making "Quaker Guns." The first use of "Quaker Guns" in the War of 1812 was by the British during the first Siege of Ft. Meigs. "Quaker Guns" would continue to see action thought the War of 1812. The last official use of "Quaker Guns" was during World War II.
