Starvation Is Good For the Men During the long winter of 1812-1813, Harrison's new Army of the Northwest was trapped in Ohio. The roads were impassable and supplies could not be brought forward to his men. Harrison asked the Secretary of War for permission to send his Militia home to save on supplies. Army headquarters turned the request down, ordering him to keep his army intact. . . . At least until they started dying off from starvation.
