Plan of Redemption On board the HMS Tonnant, Gen. Lambert, not wanting to merely return to England after the defeat at New Orleans announced his intention to land at Dauphine Island and capture Ft. Bowyer from the Americans. He intended the attack to restore the moral of his defeated army. He did not, in any way state that this was a prelude to returning to attack New Orleans. In fact he was not even considering an attack on the town of Mobile itself . . . which would be required as a base of operations to renew such an attack.
