Scott's Training Manual Nobody liked the Smyth manual in the American army, least of all Winfield Scott. So during his training operations at Flint Hill from April to June 1814 Scott wrote a new one … although not really. The Scott manual was a copy of the French Reglement for Infantry written in 1792. Figures in the original printing show soldiers in French uniforms of the period (See above).
