Forty Miles a Day A detachment of infantry from Chateaugay Four Corners was ordered to Plattsburgh by Gen. Wilkinson, reaching there after a forced march of 40 miles that day in the dead of winter. When Amundsen when to the South Pole in the snow they only marched 20 miles a day.
