Statue of Liberty The Statue of Liberty sits on a 12-pointed star fort platform layout. This is Fort Wood, which was constructed in 1811. Fort Wood was an active fortification during the War of 1812. During the war it was armed with 30 cannon and was designed to defend the western side of New York harbor, interacting with forts (Such as Fort Williams) on the eastern side of the harbor.
