23rd REGIMENT HISTORY

1813

OFFICERS TWENTY-THIRD REGIMENT OF INFANTRY

Note: The ranks of ensign and cornet were abolished in the United States Army in 1800 and replaced by 2nd Lieutenant. Some lists show officers of the 23rd as ensign, but in keeping with the post 1800 rules we list all those officers as 2nd Lieutenants.

The below list shows name, state of residence and date of commission at the rank shown. After 1812, the rolls stop showing state of residence. Dates become important as the senior officer in any rank is determined by date of commission. This list shows the officers by seniority within rank. Some officers also show assignment as well.
