Skirmish at Odelltown

Gen. Wade Hampton moving by water from Burlington to Plattsburgh, made a reconnaissance in force towards Odelltown on the direct route north from Lake Champlain. Encountering opposition that cost the life of brevet Lt. Col. Benjamin Forsyth commander of a company of U.S. Rifles Hampton decided to abandon this approach route. Hampton's force marched west instead to Four Corners, on the Chateauguay River.
