U.S. made Springfield muskets fire .69 caliber rounds, making them 16.5mm weapons. Here's a way to put them in perspective:

.30 Caliber Modern 7.62mm NATO rifle rounds
.357 Caliber 9MM rounds
.50 Caliber 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun Rounds

That makes Musket rounds larger than Heavy Machine Gun Rounds . . . fortunately they tend to move at a much lower velocity than your average heavy machine gun.
