Special Unit Names

The Canadian Volunteers are not what they sounded like; this unit was a group of pro-American volunteers that fought with the American Army of the Centre under the command of Joseph Willcocks, himself a former member of the Canadian Assembly.

New York Irregular Mounted Militia, lead by Dr. Cyrenius Chapin, on the other hand, where more commonly known by the nickname given to them by the U.S. Regulars . . . "The Forty Thieves."
