Augustus Porter

Augustus headed the firm of Porter, Barton and Company, the main contractor for US forces in the Northwest and headquartered in Black Rock, N.Y. The Quartermaster General of the region complained to the War Department, shortly after the contract was signed, about a shortage of arms and ammunition in the area, reporting that in one militia company "there was not five muskets that is fit to use in this place." That quartermaster was Peter B. Porter . . . brother to Augustus Porter.
